It’s been a few weeks now since the Hawarden Players completed their run of ‘Aladdin’. Thanks to everyone, both familiar faces and new audience members, who came along to see the Panto, in our new venue, the Hawarden Institute. You came out in your droves for two evening shows and two matinees, braving the elements, and we really appreciate your continued support
The show itself was really well received and the group are overjoyed at the positive feedback we have been given from our audiences throughout the run.

It’s now time to look to the future, and announce what is next for the Hawarden Players! So without further ado…….

One show down, three to go!  Last night was a fantastic opening night, thank you to everyone who braved the elements, and left the Hawarden Institute in much snowier conditions than they arrived in!  Also a huge thank you needs to be given to audience members Mick and his wife, who spent ages along with cast and crew members giving a helping shove to anyone who was struggling to get out of the car park

As I’m sure everyone is aware, “The Show Must Go On” and that is certainly no different for Hawarden Players’ Aladdin. Our matinee and evening shows are going ahead as planned, but the group do advise at this stage not using the car park behind the institute  until we have put grit and salt down this afternoon,  shovelled as much as we can, and assessed the conditions there. Please take care driving to and from the venue!

If you are coming to either of today’s shows, we hope you have a brilliant time, and if you haven’t got a ticket yet, you are in luck, as there are still a few available on the door!

Following last years success at the at the CCTA awards, the Hawarden Players are proud to announce they have added another accolade to their quickly expanding trophy cabinet!

On Sunday the 23rd September 2012, the group along side several other am-dram societies from the county, gathered at the Beaufort Park Hotel, Mold, to celebrate some of the achievements made in theatre within the local areas. The Hawarden Players had 2 shows entered for adjudication based on performance in the 2011/12 season; Wild West: The Panto, and Farndale Avenues’s version of Macbeth.

Congratulations need to be first extended to the members who received individual mentions during the production summaries;

• Fiona Burdsall for her role as Dame Winnie Pegg and for writing the Panto script
• Jan Meeker for playing one of the panto triplet baddies, Cal-a-gas-heater
• Sian Parry for her solid directing début, and stepping in at the 11th hour to perform in ‘Macbeth’
• Sheila McCann for her portrayal of Dawn in Farndale Avenue’s Macbeth

The group were very happy to hear a nomination for “Outstanding Individual Performance” was given to Jane Ainscough for her role within ‘Macbeth’ as head of the women’s guild, Mrs Reece, who as in turn was performing as Lady Macduff, and the Doctor brilliantly.  This is the second year running Jane has been up for the same award, which says a great deal about the strength of this actress!

Another nomination closely followed in the category of “Best Supporting Performance”, again for a role within the Farndale Avenue production of Macbeth.  This one went to an actor making his Hawarden Players debut, Mike Benjamin, who played the role of adjudicator George Peach (or George pear/apricot/grape/pawpaw/bananna/nectarine as Mrs Reece mistakenly identified him….) Another well deserved nomination for an actor who spent nearly the entire production sat on stage, constantly reacting perfectly to the madness unfolding around him.

A third nomination went to Dan Ellis, for “Most Promising Actor” after co-directing with Jane Ainscough, and being on stage in Wild West: The Panto , performing as Mr. Plummer in Macbeth, and a role within a show outside of the Hawarden Players.

We are proud to announce the Hawarden Players won an award in the form of ‘Best Presentation’ with particular emphasis on our choice of costumes, sets, and props within the past 2 shows.  This is something we are very flattered to be awarded, and has rewarded the great care the group take in crafting all aspects of a production.  Stage manager Steve Burdsall collected the award from the adjudicator to much applause from our table in particular!  Steve has headed the backstage team for many years, and this recognition extends to every member of the group, who put in such effort to get a show looking fantastic. The Hawarden Players all put such hard work, time, and money into creating costumes (Denise G, Denise P, Fiona, Karen) building and painting sets and props (Steve, Pete, Gill, Mike, Gilli) working the sound and light boards (Keith & Chris), people who shift scenery, pull the curtains, and generally throw themselves into any task needed during the ‘get-ins’ to make each show stand out (everyone involved in the Hawarden Players).

This season has been a hugely successful one for the group, welcoming in new members, and having produced two fantastically received shows presented to some of our largest audiences to date.  We endeavour to continue with our high standards and hope for even more reasons to celebrate in the coming season.

Its been almost 3 weeks now since the show, and time seems to have flown by.

Thanks to everyone who attended a performance, we quite possibly had the largest Hawarden Players audience to date for a play, and its safe to say the feedback from them has been overwhelmingly positive!

Went to the performance on Friday – fantastic! Two plays in one – the inept “ladies” of the fictional “drama guild”, and the tale of Macbeth. All performed brilliantly by the cast of the Hawarden Players. Well done.

Cast and Crew worked exceptionally hard from the moment we got into theatre once again, and we would like to say a huge thank you to those who didn’t stop especially in the week leading up to the performance!

We are currently on our (well earned) summer break, and will reunite in September, to go over plans for the annual Hawarden Players pantomime. We will also be holding a recruitment evening, where we invite potential members to pop along, have a chat with current members of the group, and see what lies ahead for the Players, welcoming you to join in the fun.

Its just over 3 weeks until we have our first performance of Farndale Avenue’s ‘Macbeth’, in our venue, Hawkesberry Theatre, Buckley.  Books have been put down, and attention is being paid to detail as we commence our final few rehearsals before the show.

Costumes have been organised, Props created, and live music (yes you read that correctly) has been practised!

Posters have been spotted all over the region, and banners will shortly be hung out. Keep an eye in the local press over the next few days, you might just see some familiar faces!

The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of Macbeth’.

The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s Production of “Macbeth” is an uproarious, hilarious comedy introducing the intrepid ladies of the F.A.H.E.T.G Dramatic Society, together with daring producer, David, and stage manager Henry.  Their production – original in the extreme – of the classic tragedy ‘Macbeth‘ should guarantee them a place in the drama finals at Welwyn Garden City after 9 moths of painstaking rehearsals.  However, under the somewhat preoccupied eye of adjudicator Mr George Peach, events conspire to ensure that everything will not be all right on the night…

Auditions take place Tuesday 28th February 2012, 7.30pm, at Mancot village hall, Mancot, for anyone who wishes to be a part of the prodution.

Performance dates of the show will be the 13th and 14th of July 2012.
